BUHARI’S DIVISIVE LEADERSHIP IS THE PROBLEM AGAINST AN OTHERWISE GOOD IDEA

Greetings, folks!

You may wanno call this a poem of sorts. It’s another one of my “If only” poems about President Mohammadu Buhari of Nigeria. I have done quite a few of those. One of the prominent ones was long before he became president, in 2007. It was titled, “If only Buhari was president…” That was right after President Olusegun Obasanjo rigged Buhari out of the 2007 presidential election. The link to it awaits you at the end of this. And I did another one after Buhari did eventually become president in 2015. I titled it, “If only Buhari was this sensitive…” That was a lamentation, that my former hero, Buhari, was/is a disappointment, with his poor performance and insensitivity.

This time, I say that the “Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) Settlement” idea by Buhari and his government, would have been great…if only…

Here we go…If only Buhari was not such an extreme ethno-religious bigot, who has divided Nigeria so terribly with clear extreme favoritism to his Fulani tribe…

If only Buhari did not put his incompetent tribesmen as heads of most of the military, paramilitary and law enforcement agencies of Nigeria. If only this did not send the fearful message to non-Fulani Nigerians that he is preparing for a jihad…

If only Buhari was sensitive to ensure that Fulani herdsmen who commit atrocities every day against Nigerians are prosecuted and punished. In other words, if only Buhari was not so divisively clannish, which defines him as a Fulani president, instead of the president of Nigeria that he’s supposed to be…

If only Buhari did not give undue illegal support to his tribe outside Nigeria with federal funds…

If only the Agriculture Minister did not use the unintelligent, undemocratic threatening statement that, “Land is being gazetted all over the country for RUGA Settlement.” If only this did not imply that the Fulani oligarchs intend to force all the states to accept the idea, in a supposed democratic federal system…

If only Buhari’s spokespersons and handlers were not so stupid in their military propaganda insults to Nigerians…If only they were intelligent enough to democratically and diplomatically sell RUGA to Nigerians…

If only all the foregoing clannish and bigoted divisive conditions and attitudes were not prevalent under Buhari’s government; the RUGA Settlement proposal could have been widely accepted, meeeeeeeeeeeeeen!!!

But, alas, President Buhari’s terrible ethno-religious disposition has created a lot of distrust among Nigerians. The people believe and fear that the RUGA project is another plot by Buhari to grab land for Fulani jihadists who are disguised as herdsmen. For this, the RUGA project has been widely resisted and rejected. Otherwise, it could have been a great idea. If it was democratically and fairly introduced in a less divided Nigeria, it could have been widely accepted by Nigerians. As things are now, one can’t rightly blame the people for rejecting RUGA due to the apprehension. If only Buhari was not so clannishly insensitive, RUGA could have been a successes, meeeeeeeeeeeen!!!
